TEMUK: Thank you for taking the time to speak with us, Dr. Popovici. Your reputation as an exceptional educator in mathematics and statistics precedes you. Can you tell us what motivated you to specialize in this area and dedicate yourself to the academic journey of high-school students?

 

Dr. Georgiana Popovici: Thank you for having me. Mathematics has always been a subject that’s fascinated me, primarily because of its universal nature. I believe that it provides students with tools not just to solve equations, but to think logically and critically. Over the years, I saw a need to prepare students for international exams, and I felt I could make a difference by equipping them with the skills they need to succeed.

 

TEMUK: Your teaching philosophy emphasizes developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. How do you ensure this in your classroom?

 

Dr. Georgiana Popovici: It’s crucial to go beyond rote memorization. I focus on teaching concepts, not just formulas. By using real-life applications, interactive lessons, and technology, I ensure that students don’t just understand the ‘how’, but also the ‘why’. This nurtures their ability to approach problems with a critical mindset.
