Choose Talk, Change Lives

NBB supports Time to Talk Day 2020

Time to Talk Day is taking place on Thursday 6th February 2020 and encourages everyone to be more open about mental health. With one in four us being affected by mental health, the team at NBB want to help spread the word about how powerful it is to just listen to someone who is struggling.

Finding the right place to talk, especially for children, isn’t always easy. Here at NBB, we have seen that the introduction of buddy benches in children’s play and social areas not only encourages group discussion and friendships in the playground, but also provides a seat should a child just wish to find a place to reflect or read a book.

The more conversations we have, the more myths we can bust and barriers we can break down, thus helping to end the isolation, shame and worthlessness that too many of us feel when experiencing a mental health problem.

By raising awareness and motivating children and adults to share experiences and feelings with each other, we hope to assist in promoting the importance of mental wellbeing and remove the stigma associated with mental health issues.

Time to Talk Day was set up by the Time to Change social movement and has shown to be having a positive impact on public attitudes and behaviour towards people with mental health problems. Since Time to Change began in 2007, there has been an overall 8.3% improvement in public attitudes.
