London, 19 June 2024: Celebrities, students, parents and teachers across the UK are today paying tribute to all those who work in education on National Thank a Teacher Day, which celebrates and shines a light on the life-changing work that takes place in education across the UK every day.

Together with students, celebrity supporters including Dame Helen Mirren, Dame Joanna Lumley and marvel star Will Poulter have all recognised the outstanding achievements of all those who work in nurseries, schools and colleges across the UK.

At the same time, 102 teachers, lecturers, leaders, support staff and institutions are also named as Silver Award Winners in the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Awards, recognising their remarkable contribution to education and the work they do to improve the lives of young people.

Following thousands of nominations, the Pearson National Teaching Awards silver winners will be honoured in surprise celebrations taking place in schools and colleges across the country today. This year’s winners include an Olympian using sport to guide vulnerable students, a primary school partnership bringing opera to the community and a lecturer championing diversity and inclusion in Automotive and Aeronautical Engineering.

National Thank a Teacher Day and the Pearson National Teaching Awards are run by the Teaching Awards Trust, an independent charity established over 25 years ago to celebrate the transformative impact of education, shining a spotlight on the pivotal roles teachers, support staff, colleges, schools and early years educators play in inspiring young people, every single day.

The Silver Award winners will now be in the running for the coveted Gold Award, which will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony later in the year.

Sir Michael Morpurgo, author, former Children’s Laureate, and President of the Teaching Awards Trust, says: “The work and devotion of all of those who play a role in educating young people is phenomenal. Not only do they play a vital role in shaping minds inside the classroom, often they continue to encourage, support, motivate and inspire beyond.
